Construction of Metro Cash&Carry's distribution center worth EUR 15m started in Subotica

Trade company Metro Cash&Carry Serbia started construction of a distribution center worth EUR 15m today (June 7, 2010).
The Chairman of Metro's Managing Board in Serbia, Veronika Puncheva, said after the foundation stone was laid for the new facility that Metro's investments in Serbia, including the facility in Subotica, would reach EUR 120m.
Puncheva said that 180 jobs would be created in the distribution center in Subotica, which means that the number of Metro's employees in Serbia will grow to 1,500.
The distribution center in Subotica, at the surface of 6,500 square meters, is planned to be opened in October 2010.
The Ambassador of Germany to Serbia, Wolfram Maas, expressed satisfaction with the fact that he was present at the commencement of realization of the investment in Subotica by the second largest German investor in Serbia.
Metro (www.metro.rs) exists in Serbia since early 2005. It is present in 30 countries with about 670 distribution centers. With over 100,000 employees, German company Metro registered turnover of about EUR 31bn in 2009.
