Education Strategy Entails Mandatory High School Graduation

The implementation of mandatory secondary education is one of the key priorities of the Draft Strategy of Development of Education until 2030, said Serbian Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development Branko Ruzic, as announced on the website of the Government of Serbia.

At an online discussion about this document, Ruzic said that the important objectives of the strategy were to cover more children when it comes to school education, to have pupils and students achieve better results, to have quality programs and to provide more support to the teachers.

According to him, the draft strategy envisages the implementation of annual initial tests, which are to be prepared by the Education Valuation Institute.

It is important, he pointed out, to ensure a continuity when it comes to international examinations, such as the PISA testing, and there will also be efforts to improve the conditions for lifelong education.

He added that the implementation of state-level final examinations should ensure a greater equality between the students which graduate from high school, whereby the current discrepancy between the final exams in different high schools, concerning the content, the procedures and the criteria, would be removed through standardized tests for a whole generation.

According to him, the implementation of state-level final examinations will reduce the costs for the students and their families and increase the opportunities for a continued education.

Another online discussion about this draft strategy is scheduled for March 2, whereas yet another will be held on March 8 at the MPs’ Club in Belgrade.
