- Japanese company Panasonic will start production in Svilajnac in October and the company plans to invest EUR 15m in it - the Mayor of Svilajnac, Gorica Dimčić-Tasić, announced today (May 26, 2010).

She said at the press conference that Panasonic would rent a space of German automotive supplier Reum and employ 50 people to produce LED diodes starting October.

Tasić said that Panasonic would start building its own factory for production of halogen lights in May 2012 and that 300 people would get jobs in that unit.

- That will be Panasonic's biggest factory in Europe. It will occupy the space of 18,000 square meters, while the investment is worth about EUR 15m - she said.

According to her words, the municipality of Svilajnac has done everything to attract as big number of investors as possible and it has provided them with plenty of benefits such as free land on the period of 99 years and free public utility taxes.

Tasić reminded that Reum had already started construction of its unit in Svilajnac, which should be put in operation in September and employ 300 people.
