Investment Plan for Energy Sector Worth EUR 10 Billion Prepared – Construction of Medium and Large Hydro Power Plants a Priority

The Ministry of Mining and Energy of Serbia has prepared an investment plan in the energy and mining sector worth EUR 10 billion, the majority of which pertains to electrical energy, minister Zorana Mihajlovic said.

– The main priority is the construction of medium and large hydro power plants, because that is a sustainable type of energy in the time of an energy transition. Secondly, we want to reduce the prices of electrical energy, when it comes to both production and consumption, which is an issue of energy efficiency, for which we have prepared a new law. The third area are renewable energy sources, which can help achieve energy security – she said answering the journalists’ questions at the Government of Serbia.

According to minister Mihajlovic, the most critical point in the electrical energy system is the distribution network, whose maintenance, she says, “has been burdened by big costs in the past period, without a true realization”.

– The losses within the distribution network are big and our estimate is that, in the next three to four years, at least EUR 350 million should be invested in order to reduce those losses by at least 3-4%. We want to invest in the entire distribution network, not just the power consumption meters. Distribucija ODS needs to be a strong company, able to deliver quality electrical energy – Mihajlovic pointed out, as announced on the website of the Government of Serbia.
