Vršac gives apartments in return for six military facilities - agreement signed between municipality and Ministry of Defense

- Serbian Defense Minister Dragan Šutanovac and the Mayor of Vršac, Čedomir Živković, signed the Agreement yesterday (May 12, 2010) on cooperation in disposal of military real estates on the territory of that local self-government - it is announced on the website of the Government of Serbia.

Šutanovac pointed out that the local self-government in that city had expressed the wish that six military facilities, which were not necessary for the functioning of the defense system any more, be transferred to the possession of the city, while the Ministry would get certain number of apartments and the price difference in cash in return.

He said that the local self-government would, most probably, take over the Army Club the first because that facility was necessary for the expansion of cultural and educational capacities and added that the Ministry could soon get nine apartments in return.

According to his words, it is most likely that residential-business facilities will be built in the locations of these military real estates, which will contribute to the development of local communities.

The Minister pointed out that, in addition to Vršac, the Ministry of Defense was also in the middle of similar negotiations with Požarevac, Pirot and Jagodina, while the negotiations with Subotica had already ended in success.

He announced that the series of meetings with local and provincial authorities, which were interested in cooperating with the Ministry in the exchange of property on the partnership basis, were expected to take place during the summer.

- The Military Academy has been promoted very successfully in Vršac - said Šutanovac and added that the Army of Serbia would take part in the manifestations that would be organized in that city during the summer.
