(Pier)

After last year's opening of a marina on the Danube, a pier for passenger ships, built in accordance with European standards, was opened today (May 11, 2010) in Apatin. The pier is 50 meters long and seven meters wide and its construction was backed by the Ministry of National Investment Plan and the Capital Investment Fund of Vojvodina.

According to the words of the Prime Minister of AP Vojvodina, Dr Bojan Pajtić, who ceremoniously opened the pier today, in addition to the state-of-the-arts marina on the Danube, Apatin has also got a contemporary and modern pier, which meets all the standards of the European Union, because the Danube is the backbone and a development opportunity not only for Vojvodina and Serbia, but also for all the countries it flows through.

- I am especially glad for the fact that this pier is in vicinity of the marina, which is the only facility on the Danube with 400 berths, 120 of which are for bigger yachts and freight ships - said Pajtić.

- The Capital Investment Fund provided EUR 4m for construction of the marina, which was opened in July 2009, while total of EUR 1m were set aside from both NIP and the Capital Investment Fund of AP Vojvodina for construction of the pier. The World Bank promised to give about RSD 300m for construction of embankments alongside the marina and the pier - stated Dr Živorad Smiljanić, the Mayor of Apatin.
