Happy New Year and May it Not be Just a Phrase This Time

Dear eKapija users,

We are waving 2020 goodbye together, as if it were a stranger we never wanted to meet. It arrived uninvited, a brute with no heart, petty and small, cynical, and all our scientific knowledge and the measures we imposed to make it go away, sometimes justified and sometimes aimless, haven’t been able to show it the door: it would occasionally withdraw and then came back, bloodthirsty, suffocating us like the most boring guest at the party. Suffocating both literally and metaphorically.

We wish you a much better summer of 2021.

To be fair, we said so a year ago too – in certain cases the good wishes did come true. However, many will remember this past year for the uncertainty and the worry it brought us, worry for ourselves and others, especially the elderly and the sick. Some have suffered too.

The past year was such that this time we are eschewing our traditional pre-holiday section “Highlights of…”. This leap year does not qualify for any kind of good memories at all.

Things will get better… This time we will use the old saying that the night is darkest before dawn. First of all, we wish that as many of our fellow citizens as possible preserve their health. Furthermore, we want the time to comes as fast as possible when we will no longer have to talk about the new normal, which is in fact quite abnormal and inhuman: neither were our children born with masks on their faces so that they should go to school like that now nor should we be keeping personal distance from each other – if that goes on until spring even, it will still be too much.

On our part, we are feeling well, thanks for asking: the business results of eKapija are even slightly above what was expected, considering the circumstances. However, many industries and smaller segments of the economy cannot say the same, unfortunately: their recovery will be long and difficult and will in no way finish in the new year. We will write about all this in 2021 as well, justifying our very reason of existence, the Serbian economy.

From the heart, we wish you to forget everything that’s worth forgetting. Remain hopeful, because no virus can affect that.
