Free electronic access to World Bank's documents enabled

- The Minister of Education of Serbia, Žarko Obradović, and the Director of the World Bank's Office (WB) in Serbia, Simon Grey, opened the WB Information Center today (April 29, 2010) within University Library "Svetozar Marković", which will enable access to the data of that bank - it is announced on the website of the Government of Serbia.

Obradovic said that the Ministry of Education had strong support from the World Bank which is not only limited to financial support, but it also gained support in terms of information that has contributed to changes in the educational system of our country.

- That does not mean that we have always agreed on all issues - the Minister pointed out and added that the best solutions for the educational system of Serbia had been sought during the talks.

The Minister expressed confidence that the information center will be a place that allows free electronic access to information, statistical databases and publications of the World Bank in various fields of knowledge and learning for all citizens, especially students, pupils, teachers and the wider academic public needing such information.

- We hope that this informative center will last for as long as the World Bank exists in Serbia, but not for much too long because countries go on without us after certain time - Grey pointed out.

The World Bank has opened 65 such centers in the world in the last 15 years. The bank’s data is available at data.worldbank.org.
