Montenegro Popular Among Wealthy People Looking for “Golden Visa”

Montenegro is one of the most popular states for millionaires looking to get the so-called “Golden Visa” by investing in or donating to a certain state, as shown by the list published by the company Astons, a provider of investment immigration services.

Many countries have a program called “Golden Visa”, that is, “citizenship through investment”, or “getting a visa through investment”, where rich individuals can invest in a country in exchange for its citizenship or residency.

According to Business Insider and CNN, the interest in these programs has grown rapidly in the Covid-19 pandemic, because the ultra-rich are now increasingly looking for ways to travel for free, CDM reports.

Theodore Schleifer of the company Recode said that billionaire Eric Schmidt had applied for a Cyprus citizenship, which could give him personal tax benefits and enable him to travel within the EU.

According to the list published by Astons, countries such as Cyprus and Montenegro are still popular among those looking for “Golden Visas”.

As added, the minimum amount guaranteeing a “citizenship through investment” in Cyprus can go over two million pounds.

Montenegro is relatively accessible at the minimum set at around USD 400,000.

The investment qualification varies depending on the country, but it can entail anything, from investment in real estate to donating to charity in the target country.

Earlier this year, Business Insider reported that the value of the American passport had dropped the previous year, and the New York Times reported in August that owning a second passport had become a new world trend and a status symbol.
