(Illustration) Two thirds of the companies of the American Chamber of Commerce in Serbia (AmCham) will continue investing in Serbia despite the coronavirus pandemic, as shown by the results of AmCham’s annual survey of trust and satisfaction among the investors.
– Two thirds of the members say that they will invest further, which means that the degree of trust is good and that they will remain here despite the situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic. We have been carrying out this survey since 2013 and we must say that the best year was 2019, but also that the situation at the moment is stable – Amalija Pavic, Deputy Executive Director of AmCham, said on RTS.
Pavic says that AmCham, which represents 200 American, international and domestic companies, which employ more than 100,000 citizens of Serbia, measures the satisfaction and trust of the investors based on their plans for the next year.
According to her, the year behind us was not easy, because 65% reported a drop in the business.
– We now have an experience which is not insignificant, we believe that the situation will not worsen and that the vaccine will bring about an improvement, so in a way we know what we can expect and what to do in order for the business operations to improve – Pavic said.
When it comes to the measures of the Serbian government to counter the negative economic consequences of Covid, she said:
– They prevented us from sliding down the direction we didn’t want to continue going down and put a stop to the uncertainty. The measures during the state of emergency were well estimated, because they prevented the spreading of the virus the most quickly. The second stimulus package got a slightly worse rating, because it took place in the middle of the summer, which it was known which sectors were affected the most, so our investors claim that the targeting of the sectors that truly needed help could have been done better.
She says that, this year, AmCham will recommend to the government to improve the e-government, that is, to fully move the administrative procedures online.
