End of privatization in Serbia – in 2007

The intention of the Ministry of Economy of Serbia is to end privatization of public companies in 2007, the Minister of Economy in the Government of Serbia, Predrag Bubalo, announced when he spoke in Washington on the Conference on trade and investments in Serbia and Montenegro. Announcing beginning of the second, “crucial” phase of the transition, he pointed out that it was necessary to carry out restructuring of big public companies and he reminded that the tenders had been announced for councillors for privatization of telecommunications sector, Mining Smelter Basin Bor and Petroleum Industry of Serbia.

Talking to the participants in the Conference, which gathered about 150 people – the representatives of the companies from SCG, present and potential investors from USA, officials of the Government of Serbia, Montenegro and USA, Maria Andrews, the trade councillor of the Embassy of USA to SCG, pointed to the fields worth attention in Serbia, such as industrial sector, transportation “as the new potential”, energy and communications. As far as Montenegro is concerned, the field of interest no. 1 is tourism.
