Days of Belgrade - April 16-19

- City manifestation Days of Belgrade, which will be organized this year for the eighth time, will be held between April 16 and 19 and it will be marked by numerous concerts, exhibitions, cultural, education and sports programs - Beoinfo stated.

The biggest city celebration is dedicated to significant dates in its history – the first mentioning of the Slavic name of Belgrade in a written document on April 16, 878, and the handover of keys to the capital city to duke Mihailo Obrenović on April 19, 1867.

– Celebration of the Days of Belgrade traditionally starts with the ceremonious meeting of the City Assembly in Old Palace on April 16 at noon. On that occasion, the laureates of the Award of City of Belgrade for year 2009 will be announced. The awards will be handed on the last day of the manifestation and the Avala Tower will be ceremoniously opened the same evening. In this year of the crisis, the budget for celebration of the Days of Belgrade is drastically cut, so that we put maximum effort into preparing as good program as possible for less money – said Ivana Avžner, the City Secretary for Culture.
