Construction of power plant on the Drina commenced - investment worth 435m EUR

The Assistant Director of the Directorate for Strategy and Investments of the Electric Power Company of Serbia (EPS), Slobodan Mitrović, said that the realization of 435m EUR worth of project for construction of power plant on the upper stream of the Drina river had commenced in association with the partners from the Republic of Srpska (RS).

Mitrović said in the interview for the new issue of the monthly publication of Lazarevac-based Mining Basin Kolubara that "the first level of investment-technical documentation", elaboration of the justification study and the preliminary project had been finished and that the joint venture for construction of power plants should be formed soon.

Mitrović added that, over the previous few months, EPS had signed the Memorandum of cooperation with German RWE, while the Ministry of Energy and Mining of Serbia had signed the same document with the authorized Italian ministries.

He also said that the elaboration of projects for construction of reversible hydroelectric power plant Đerdap 3 on the Danube and the system of hydroelectric power plants on the Velika Morava was underway.

Serbia annually produces more electricity in steam power plants than in hydroelectric power plants, while over 52% of total production of electric energy are provided by TENT in Obrenovac, TEK in Veliki Crljeni and Morava in Svilajnac.
