The airport in Bikovo, six kilometers northeast from Subotica, has been used for decades by the members of Aeroklub Ivan Saric for sports and training flights of planes, gliders and kites.

Recently, it got another important role. For a period of 90 days it has been given the status of a temporary border checkpoint for international air traffic. Until November 15, the usual customs and police procedures related to the crossing of state borders can be carried out there.

The advantage of this status is primarily used by managers and owners of foreign companies which operate in Subotica which use private jets and helicopters as the means of transport.

Now they no longer have to go to the Nikola Tesla Airport for passport and customs control and then go back to the airport near Subotica.

This saves them a lot of travel time. The heads of Tatravagonka Bratstvo are therefore able to arrive from Slovakia in an hour, whereas the air taxi from Szeged arrives in only eight minutes.
