Velvet Farm, one of the state-of-the-arts farms for production of milk in Serbia, plans to build a biogas unit for production of energy obtained in natural way in 2011, and the produced power will be sold to the Power Supply Company.

- The unit's power will be 1.5 MWh. Raw materials for production of biogas will be provided from liquid and solid manure and we will also use biomass from corn silage and other plant remains in production – Jovan Popović, the CEO of Velvet Farm, told eKapija.

He pointed out that the by-product of that unit would be heating energy, that is, hot water that would be used for heating the farm, greenhouse and water for cows.

- Once the period of digestion is over, dry residue remains and compost is obtained, which is used as organic fertilizer for gardens. There is also a liquid part that contains significant quantity of nutritional matters for plants, so that everything in the treatment process is used – said Popović.

Velvet Farm plans to finish construction of a silo for cereals, with the capacity of 5,200 tons, and a gas-powered hot house prior to the beginning of harvesting season.

- We will build four silo cells in this first phase and another four later. Construction of a mixing unit for fodder is also in the pipeline – said Popović.

The silo, which will be equipped with Spanish equipment Prado, will be built by company Agrokons from Feketić.

The primary field of work of Velvet Farm in Čurug is cattle breeding, that is, breeding of high-quality milk cows Holstein and milk production. The farm's capacity is 1,000 milking cows.

Velvet Farm operates as a members of business system Global seed, a part of which is company PP Budućnost from Čurug and Gospođinci from Gospođinci, of which primary task is to provide quality nutrients for Velvet Farm.
