Construction of Car Part Factory of German Company SMP Automotive Begins in Cuprija

The development of 28 hectares and the construction of a car part factory of the German company SMP Automotive, where 450 workers will be employed, have started in the Dobricevo Industrial Zone in Cuprija, as announced by the Municipality of Cuprija on Friday, August 28.

The deadline for the completion of the works is June 2021.

As part of Samvardhana Motherson Group from India, SMP Automotive is among the 20 world leaders in the production of interior and exterior modules for cars – bumpers, grilles, car body elements, weather seals, spoilers, sun shields, dashboards, internal central consoles and door modules with the accompanying electronics.

The works on the construction of the factory were announced around ten days ago by the president of the Assembly of the Municipality of Cuprija, Ninoslav Eric, who also said that the infrastructure of the Dobricevo Industrial Zone would be completed with the help of the Government of Serbia.

The president of the municipality, Jovica Antic, said that he expected the new factory “to change the economic situation in Cuprija, not just because it will employ nearly 500 workers, which is almost a fifth of the total number of the unemployed in the municipality”, but also because it marked the beginning of the development of the Dobricevo zone as “the most important industrial complex in this part of Serbia”.

Antic said that he was certain that many other companies would start coming to the zone beginning with the next year.
