State to Help Air Serbia Settle its Debts, Minister Announces – Negotiations with Creditors in Progress

All airline companies in the world are now in a very difficult situation and our Air Serbia is not an exception, Serbian Finance Minister Sinisa Mali said in an interview for Politika. He said that Air Serbia was a company of national interest and that the state would help it settle its debts.

– This is probably the biggest crisis ever for the aviation industry and that is why states are helping their airline carriers. In the middle of the epidemic, to the end of mitigating the consequences of the economic crisis caused by it, the European Union adopted new rules pertaining to state aid. They are much more relaxed and they enable the state to help when it comes to economic liquidity and in individual cases, when companies are affected by coronavirus – Mali said.

According to him, the Ministry of Finance has adopted two decrees whereby a harmonization with said European regulations was carried out.

– So, Air Serbia is a company of national interest and the state will help it – the minister said.

As he said, they are negotiating with the creditors.

– Negotiations with the creditors are in progress and I can't divulge the details, but I repeat that we will certainly help Air Serbia. Together with our partners from Etihad, we are working on solving this problem.
