The construction of the Belgrade Subway, as announced earlier, should begin by the end of 2021, with the construction of a subway depot in Makis. The future depot should be located between the Makis Classification Yard and the Sava Main Road, and the plan is for facilities for maintenance and storage of spare parts and equipment of the subway system to be located there.

The City of Belgrade and the Belgrade Land Development Public Agency of Belgrade have opened a public procurement procedure for the preparation of technical documentation for the equipping of the Makisko Polje location.

The technical documentation for the equipping of the location should consists of:

– a project of hydrotechnical installations – precipitation collections 3 and 4,

– a project of hydrotechnical installations – sections of temporary connections for the drainage of precipitation from collectors 3 and 4 to the closest natural waterway (recipient),

– a project of the establishment of a mound for the subway depot up to an altitude of 74 meters.

The deadline period for the preparation of the technical documentation is 270 days, and bids may be submitted by September 17, 2020.

Subway depot flat area

The protection of the populated areas, subway stations and the planned depot from the high levels of ground waters will be done through the establishment of a flat-surface mound, that is, an artificial elevation of the jeopardized areas, whereby the hydrogeological and hydrodynamic conditions in the area will change. According to the Preliminary Feasibility Study with the General Project, the proposal is for the task to be carried out using wet sand, whereby a multi-layer porous mass would be formed.

The subject of this part of the technical documentation is the preparation of a preliminary design and project for the construction permit for the building of the earthen mound in the location planned for the subway depot.

The area in the location designated for the establishment of this elevation for the subway depot is around 47.55 ha. Roughly, the amount of material to be used is estimated at around 1,425,000 m3.

Non-organic material, without organic ingredients should be used for this purpose, as organic elements would change the physical and mechanical characteristics of the material with time. The material should be provided from the precisely defined site or by processing the sand from the rivers.
