The contract on business-technical cooperation between Kragujevac’s Zastava and Opel will be signed at the latest at the end of 2005 or in January next year. The modes of cooperation will be defined by preliminary agreement that should be signed soon by managers of the two companies.
The negotiations between Zastava and Opel, which lasted for months, resulted in the agreement on commencement of the assembling of Opel’s models “Astra” and “Vectra” in Kragujevac next year. 5,000 “Astra” and 3,500 “Vectra” vehicles should come out the assembly lines of the car factory. Unlike Zastava’s “Punto” which, at demand of “Fiat”, will appear on the domestic and markets of surrounding countries under the name “Zastava 10” and mark that it was produced according to the license of Italian factory, the Opel’s models will have the signs of this company and they will be called “Astra” and “Vectra”. These are “C” class automobiles.
