The recommendations have been sent to the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia, the NALED, the American Chamber of Commerce, the Foreign Investors Council, the Serbian Association of Managers and the Ministry of Economy of Serbia.
Women are “on the front line of the fight against coronavirus, as they are mostly employed in the health sector and the social sector, store chains, care services and household maintenance”, which puts them at a disadvantage and makes their position more vulnerable, pointed out the president of the Coordination Body for Gender Equality, Zorana Mihajlovic.
– We have therefore sent recommendations to employers to include those activities that will help narrow the gender gap in their operations, with the support of the EU Delegation to Serbia, the UK Embassy and the UN Women organization – she said.
The activities also pertain to the flexibility of working hours, preservation of jobs, support to women who are victims of violence and directing donations at organizations which support the vulnerable categories of women.
Mihajlovic pointed out that there had been a positive response to the initiative, among others from the Serbian Association of Managers, which gathers over 400 managers of companies with more than 70,000 employees.
