Kotor-Lovcen Gondola Most Probably to be Built by Novi Volvox and Leitner – Planned Investment of EUR 24.2 Million

Companies Novi Volvox and Leitner have won the tender for the construction of the Kotor-Lovcen gondola. The Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism of Montenegro has announced that their offer is top-ranked.

According to the project, the route begins at the Dub location, on the periphery of Kotor, right next to the entrance to the road tunnel which connects Kotor with Tivat, and leads to the Kuk location on the Lovcen mountain, at an altitude of 1,350 meters.

The difference in altitude between the two stations will be 1,316 meters. The gondola route will be slightly over 3,900 meters long and have 20 pylons. The projected capacity is 1,000 passengers per hour and the travel time is 11 minutes. The gondola system will have 40 cabins, each with a capacity of ten people.

– All the equipment for the gondola will be manufactured by the renowned world producer of gondola system Leitner, which is also one of the investors in this important project – Novi Volvox says in a press release.

– The stations feature a modern design and are of indoor type. The cabins feature the modern design of the SigmaDiamond EVO C10 S210PE type for 10 passengers. They are designed as comfortable units which can secure an easy entry and exit in the standing position. The control system is fully owned by Leitner, which is the producer of the equipment – the press release says.

The concession will last for 30 years, and the the construction of the gondola system itself is included in the period. The planned investment is EUR 24.2 million, Novi Volvox adds.

Leitner points out that they believe that the project will become the next tourist attraction in Montenegro and an important step in building a strong link between Kotor and Cetinje.

– We expect the negotiations with the tendering procedure board to be finished soon. This will enable us to finish this project in a short amount of time, so as to be ready when the Montenegrin tourism industry starts recovering from the current crisis – said Martin Leitner, a board member of Leitner Zicara, after visiting the location.
