- The Minister without Portfolio in the Government of Republic of Serbia, Sulejman Ugljanin, said yesterday (February 23, 2010) that Serbia should use Turkey's interest in investing in road and railway Corridor 10 - it is stated on Serbian Government's website.
Ugljanin, who met yesterday with the representatives of Turkish economic delegation made of 50 most successful businessmen from the Aegean region, pointed out that Turkey used Corridor 10 through Serbia for transit of goods and people from that country to Europe.
- Turkey is interested in investing in Corridor 10, in the highway and the railway, because their goods and people are using that route and we should use that common interest - said he.
According to his words, Serbia should become a business destination for Turkish entrepreneurs.
- Our aim is to attract Turkish entrepreneurs to relocate expensive production from Bulgaria and Romania to Serbia and use the advantages offered by our legislation and the underdeveloped municipalities in Serbia that represent a real "hidden treasure" for foreign investors - said Ugljanin.
He pointed out that Serbia should also use Turkey's national capital, that is, the capital of its commercial banks, for investments in development projects in Serbia, primarily in the industrial zone in Tutin, which was the pilot project for development of other industrial zones.
- I spoke to the Mayor of Belgrade, Dragan Đilas, about determination of the location alongside Corridor 10 for construction of an Islamic cultural center, while Serbian President Boris Tadić has already started the procedure for that purpose - said Ugljanin.
That Center, as he explained, would be used not only by the citizens of Belgrade, but also by all those who take Corridor 10 when travelling from Europe to the East and vice versa.
Ugljanin, who is also the Co-President of the Mixed Commission for Economic Cooperation between Serbia and Turkey, said that the Aegean region had approximately the same number of inhabitants as Serbia, and he expressed the expectation that the entrepreneurs from that region would be interested in investing in Serbia.
The meeting with the Turkish economic delegation was also attended by the State Secretary in the Ministry of National Investment Plan, Edib Dedeić, and the people's representative in the Parliament of Serbia, Bajram Omeragić.
Ugljanin will open Serbian-Turkish Business Forum tomorrow in hotel Holiday Inn in Belgrade.
