Telekom Slovenia (Telekom Slovenije) has started implementing the first commercial 5G network in the country, using the existing base stations within the frequence range of 2600 MHz, which is in use for 4G.

The company says that, initially, around 25% of the country's territory will be covered by the 5G network and that, by the end of the year, the percentage will exceed 33%, STA reports.

The Slovenian national TC operator said at a press conference that the upgraded 4G/5G network would enable a quicker transfer of data that that provided by the LTE/4G network.

However, the full potential of the 5G network, as said, will be available only once an additional frequency range is approved.

So far, Telekom Slovenia has upgraded 150 base stations, which covers around a quarter of the country's territory, and the company expects further upgrades to increase the coverage to over 33% by the end of the year.
