Bulgaria approved plan for nuclear plant Belene - Russian Atomstroyexport waits for building permit

Russian corporation Atomstroyexport announced that Bulgarian National Energy Company (NEK) had approved the technical project for nuclear plant Belene.
- The next step is issuing of the license for construction of nuclear plant Belene by Bulgarian Agency for Atomic Regulation - said the Vice President of Atomstroyexport, Genadij Tepkjan, who also pointed out that the Russian company had the project that was brought in accord with all European standards.
Tepkjan said that NEK had made the decision on the basis of the "positive position of independent Bulgarian and international expert organizations".
The representatives of Atomstroyexport remind that that Russian company won on the tender for construction of nuclear plant Belene in 2005 and that the agreement on construction was signed in January 2008.
- The project for construction of nuclear plant Belene is the only Russian project approved by the European Commission, which speaks of high level of security and safety of future nuclear plant - said the people from the Russian company.
