- The value of import of wine in Serbia in 2009 reached 31m USD, while the value of export amounted to 13m USD, which points to big deficit - it was pointed out in the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia, at the meeting of the Group of Vine and Fruit Seedling Manufacturers.

- Total of 231,784 hectoliters of wine were imported in 2008, while only 91,574 hl were exported - said Vojislav Urošević, the President of the Group of Vine and Fruit Seedling Manufacturers.

There is a potential for production of vine and fruit seedlings in Serbia that can satisfy domestic demand. However, the problems related to long-term plantations planning and payment of subventions affect the reduction in size of vineyards.

According to unofficial information, vineyards in Serbia occupy 64,365 ha, and our country has the allowed quota for export of 65m liters of wine to European Union.
