Fiat Automobili Srbija started hiring workers of Zastava Automobili

Fiat Automobili Srbija (FAS) started signing the first employment contracts today (February 1st, 2010) with the workers it intends to take over from Kragujevac's factory Zastava Automobili.

Before they sign the contract on new employment, the workers must first cancel the employment contracts with Zastava Automobili.

The President of the Independent trade union of factory Zastava Automobili, Zoran Mihajlović, told Beta agency yesterday that the joint venture of Italian Fiat and the Government of Serbia should employ 1,000 Zastava's workers in the first phase.

Fiat selected about 30 people among the workers it takes over from Zastava's Automobile Factory to be the managers of the company in Kragujevac.

- The employment contracts are typical, and the Work Regulations are brought in accord with our Law on Labor, so that we do not expect any problems when it comes to that - said Mihajlović.
