The long awaited and announced construction of the new building of the Research and Development Institute for Information Technologies in Biosystems (BioSense) in Novi Sad, should begin this autumn. The Office for Public Investment Management, in cooperation with the EU Delegation to Serbia, has opened an international tender for the construction of the new building of the BioSense Institute, and the works are supposed to start in October.

As announced earlier, the new building will be unique in Serbia, as the special anti-vibration characteristics of the facility will enable the use of state-of-the-art scientific equipment necessary for the development of micro and nano electronics, sensors and other devices. This will provide Serbian agriculturists with a powerful tool and make for healthier and larger yields, as the new building will make the scientists' job easier.

For this project, Serbia borrowed EUR 11 million from the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the financing agreement, signed three years ago, envisages for the state to invest EUR 3 million within Phase 2 of the Antares project. Around EUR 4.5 million will be spent on the construction of the building, whereas EUR 9.5 million is planned for modern scientific equipment.

The Antares project aims to develop BioSense into an European Center of Excellence for advanced technologies in the field of sustainable agriculture, thereby leading to the digitization of the local agricultural sector.

In addition to the features meant for scientists, the new BioSense Institute facility will feature a special area for small and medium enterprises, which aims to accelerate the connection of the local IT sector and agriculture. According to the documentation, at the institute, on a gross area of 6,741 m2, there will be laboratories, work stations for the employees, work stations for external users, lecture rooms, a cafeteria with side rooms...

Also, the Institute building will feature a special area meant for the BioSense accelerator and cooperation of the best entrepreneurs and innovators with the institute's scientists.

As said, the institute will be located between the students' playground, the Suncani Kej location and the Faculty of Sciences.

According to the plan, the first and second floor will feature laboratories and work stations for researchers, that is, offices. On these floors, the main staircase, which connects to the entrance hall, is separated from the lower floors by glass panels with controlled access.

On the third floor, the design also envisages laboratories, the working area for the researchers and the management, whereas the fourth floor is reserved for the management and administrative offices.

Bids may be submitted by July 17, at 11 am, and the opening of the bids will take place on the same date at 1 pm. More about the tender can be found HERE.
