Bechtel-Enka builds Morina-Merdare highway in Kosovo

The Minister of Transportation of Kosovo, Fatmir Ljimaj, announced yesterday (January 18, 2010) that the winner on the tender for construction of Morina-Merdare highway was American-Turkish company Bechtel-Enka.
Ljimaj did not say the price of the highway construction. According to the closest estimate, the price of construction of the highway 117 km long ranges between 700 and 800m EUR.
The project anticipates construction of the highway through eight municipalities and paving of 1,062 ha of land.
The bidders on the tender for construction of the highway were Austrian Alpine, Turkish Makyol, Italian Pizzaroti, Austrian Porr and Strabag, and Greek Terna.
The offer of Bechtel amounts to 600m EUR.
In accordance with the Law, the winner on the tender will negotiate the details of the contract with the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications. In case they fail to reach the agreement, the Ministry will resume the negotiations with the second-ranked bidder on the tender.
The company that won on this tender has already built Drač-Morina highway in Albania.
