Private investors build public garages in ten locations in Belgrade - new parking lots on public surfaces

The Public Garage Network Plan, which should be adopted this year, will enable construction of more than 10 parking facilities in the following period, which should resolve the problem of shortage of parking places in Belgrade.

The CEO of Parking Service, Boban Kovačević, explains that realization of these projects will be entrusted to interested investors who accept to build, exploit and return the garages to the city after few years under certain conditions.

- These projects would definitely resolve the problem of parking in the city core where the majority of these garages would be situated. The possibility that Parking Service and Gradske Pijace (City Markets) finance reconstruction of Djeram market together is under consideration. Construction of an underground garage beneath that market would resolve a big problem of lack of parking space in that part of the city - Kovačević points out.

- Installation of so-called fast-park system on Slavija is also in the pipeline, and it should enable doubling of capacities of parking places in that part of the city. Also, mechanical systems that should double the capacities of parking places will be installed in the garages in Kraljice Marije Street and beneath the Palace of Justice. In short, these are relatively simple systems that will enable parking of two automobiles at one place - Kovačević explains.
