Fighting Coronavirus Using Data – Open Call for Joining Data Science Initiatives and Solutions

In the past weeks, numerous initiatives have appeared in response to COVID-19 by various communities from all over the globe, including Serbia – from neighborly help to fellow citizens to 3D printing of medical equipment. In order to identify, join and further support various initiatives of the IT community, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Serbia, the Digital Serbia Initiative and Data Science Serbia are organizing a virtual meetup called “Fighting Coronavirus Using Data” on Thursday, April 9, at 6 pm.

Initiatives and ideas which help solve the current situation regarding COVID-19, but also those which offer suggestions for addressing the future consequences, will be presented at the meeting.

This online meetup is meant for those who operate in the data science field and who have already launched their COVID-19 projects, those who have an idea how to use the data and who plan to work on it or want to invest their time and creativity and support the existing initiatives.

Through this meetup, in addition to helping coordinate the data science community, the three organizations want to see how they can support individual projects and enable them to be realized more quickly and efficiently.

The deadline for those who have their own ideas and want to present them to the community is April 7, whereas application for other participants is open until the day of the meetup.

How can these organization support the initiatives?

The UNDP Serbia supports the state in various ways and is interested in partnership with organizations which can help by responding immediately to a health crisis, providing support to vulnerable groups, facilitating the insight into the impact of the crisis on various social groups and helping the society and the economy recover in the future.

The Digital Serbia Initiative actively helps by coordinating the local IT sector in order to help the state face the key challenges, and it can help the data science projects with the resources of the organization itself and its members, among which are numerous IT companies and leading corporations from various fields (from telecom companies and banks to media).

Data Science Serbia plans to gather all the members of the community, individuals and companies alike, around this initiative and to provide support related to the potential realization and promotion of the ideas and projects.
