The National Assembly adopted on Thursday a EUR 3 billion stimulus package aiming to cushion the impact of coronavirus on Slovenia's economy and people.

The general law on coronavirus secures aid to companies and workers affected by the epidemic, as well as the self-employed, pensioners, students, large families and welfare recipients.

The key measures which help companies entail a full compensation of 80% of the fee for the temporarily laid off workers and for two months of social contribution costs for those who remain employed, STA reports.

The measures do not pertain to financial and insurance companies.

Companies will not be obliged to pay income tax and will be able to postpone credit repayment by 12 months.

The law also envisages a two-month basic income of 350 and 700 euros for certain categories, such as religious workers and agriculturists.

Compensations for certain groups are also envisaged. Students will get 150 euros each, whereas pensioners with pensions below 700 euros are to get 130 to 300 euros each.

An additional 150 euros will be secured for welfare recipients.

Bonuses of up to 200 euros, which will be partially financed by the state, through an exemption from the payment of contributions, are envisaged for workers in the private sector, whereas the owners of public offices are looking at salary cuts of 30%.

On the other hand, bonuses of 10-100% of the basic hourly wage are envisaged for those working in the public sector.

Prime Minister Janez Jansa said in front of the members of the parliament that it was only the first part of a series of measures.
