Lake on 400 ha near Boljevac in the pipeline

In ten years at the most, Serbia will have its own sea because the construction of accummulation on surface of 400 ha on water system "Bogovina" is in the pipeline. According to the words of Mirko Bačilović, director of Public Company "Bogovina", the accummulation should be finished in 7 years, filling of lake with water in five and, which is the most important, Serbia will in this way obtain 55 million cubic meters of quality water, irrigation of 7,000 ha in valley of the Timok river and jobs for big number of workers.

This water system is located two kilometers away from the present source of healthy drinking water Mrljić, in Bogovina near Boljevac. The plan implies construction of hydroelectric power plant of 5.5 MW, which would supply the entire Municipality of Boljevac with electricity.

The works can start next year. This project requires €70m, half of which will be provided by the Republic, whereas the rest will be provided by municipalities of Bor, Boljevac, Zaječar and Negotin. The future lake will be as big as ten Bor’s lakes and it will attract the tourists from all over the world. Cultivated fields all the way to Negotin and the Danube will no longer be flooded, the tourism will regenerate the entire region and Serbia will have its eastern sea.

The water from Mrljić source from the depth of 100 meters is of exceptional quality. If there was not for prevention and legal regulations, chlorination would be absolutely unnecessary. So far, the Republic and Municipality of Bor have invested over €30m and, in that way, completed the first phase.
