Ban on sale of coal and wet wood for heating in England from 2021

The sale of the biggest pollutants among the fuels used for heating in households in England will be stopped in phases from 2021 in order for the air pollution to be reduced, the UK government announced.

The competent institutions have confirmed the plans, which aim to reduce the concentration of the harmful PM 2.5 particles in the atmosphere, which can penetrate deep into the lungs, causing serious health problems.

The transition will be carried out gradually between 2021 and 2023, so that the consumers and the suppliers would be given enough time to switch to clean alternatives, such as briquettes and pellets or dry wood. In addition to being less harmful when it comes to air pollution, thanks to a lower production of smoke and polluting matters, they are also less expensive.
