Construction of Main Postal Center in Belgrade to start in mid-2010?

Construction of Main Postal Center (MPC) in Zemun may start in mid-2010, while elaboration of the project documentation will be finished in March. The contract on elaboration of Preliminary and Main Project has been signed by Public Postal Company "PTT Srbija" and company "Mašinoprojekt kopring".

- The future center will be situated at the corner of Ugrinovačka Street and Novosadski Road. The complex at total surface of 25,320 square meters, consisting of the main building and auxiliary facilities, will be built on the parcel of land of about 5.6 ha. The main building will include administrative and technical sections. The administrative section will occupy the surface of 4,560 square meters and it will have a basement, ground floor and two floors, while the technical section will be built at 18,022 square meters - Ivan Jauković, the Project Manager in company "Mašinoprojekt kopring", told "eKapija".

As he explained, "Pošte Srbije" (Serbian Postal Company) had specific requests since this project is of strategic importance to the company.

The project solution had to ensure the facility's functionality, but it was also necessary to meet aesthetic standards in order for the building to be a "beautiful work of architecture" because the future complex is going to be situated in a significant location.

He said that the elaboration of the project would be finished in March 2010 when the conditions would be created for announcement of the tenders for contractors and public procurements.

As the people from "Pošte Srbije" explained earlier, the first estimates showed that the construction of the complex should cost about 60m EUR, but since construction works are now separated from procurement of equipment, the estimates are that the project's cost will be 38m EUR.

The plan is that the process of reloading, transporting, storing and distributing mail and packages be automated in the Main Postal Center, so that MPC will be equipped with the up-to-date machines for automatic sorting of letters, brochures and packages.
