Croatia to invest more than EUR 260 million in water supply systems

The agreement on the allocation of grants and the agreement on the co-financing within the project “The Pitomaca Agglomeration Waste Water Drainage and Treatment System” were signed last week.

The project is worth over HRK 262 million (EUR 34 million). A total of 71% of the justified costs, that is, HRK 149 billion (EUR 19.4 million) has been provided within the Operating Program “Competitiveness and Cohesion 2014-2020”. The remaining HRK 60 billion (EUR 7.8 million) will be provided through the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Energy, the Hrvatske Vode company and the Municipality of Pitomaca.

– This is the best possible way to use the European funds and increase the quality of life – the Croatian environment and energy minister, Tomislav Coric, said at the signing of the contract.

The general manager of Hrvatske Vode, Zoran Djurkovic, pointed out that, after the realization of the project, 85% of the populace would be connected to the water supply system, whereas 86% would be connected to the drainage system.

– We haven't forgotten the waste water treatment device either. It should be set up for secondary treatment and have a capacity for 9,000 residents.

Including this project, agreements on 54 water utility projects have been signed so far.

– The works within these projects are worth over HRK 22 billion (around EUR 268 million). No doubt, this is a great sign for the construction sector in the Republic of Croatia – minister Coric concluded.
