International public tender for purchase of ten diesel-motor trains, announced by "Serbian Railways", has attracted four companies, and we will know in one month which of them will deliver the trains.
- Ten new diesel-motor trains will appear on Serbian rails within the next two years - the company announced.
- The funds have been provided thanks to the loan granted by international railway bank Eurofima - the CEO of the Transportation Directorate of "Serbian Railways", Dragan Grujić, said on December 4th.
Four large European companies that will participate in the tender are CAF from Spain, "ŽOS Vrutky" from Slovakia, "Metrovagonmash" from Russia, and "Gredelj" from Croatia.
According to the tender terms, new trains should appear on Serbian rails in two years at the latest. However, people in "Serbian Railways" hope that the delivery will start already in one year, so that all ten trains could be delivered prior to mid-2011.
New diesel-motor train compositions will contribute to improvement of internal, especially regional railway traffic on non-electrified rails in Serbia, and they will have to meet all the requests of International Railway Union, as well as the directives related to ecology.
International railway bank Eurofima has granted the loan of 43m CHF to Serbian Railways for realization of that project.
"Serbian Railways" is the only railway company in the region that applied for the loan of Eurofima with the project for procurement of new means of transportation.
- Since "Serbian Railways" applied for the loan of total of 60m CHF, there is possibility that the company will be granted remaining 17m CHF in the following period for procurement of additional number of diesel-motor train compositions - it is stated in the announcement by "Serbian Railways.
