The building of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA) in Kneza Mihaila Street in Belgrade will be reconstructed by 2024, in time for its 100th anniversary.

The project has been entrusted with the consortium of Bureau Cube Partners and AG Institute.

A team of designers led by architect Milan Raskovic should prepare the investment-technical documentation, from the preliminary design to the final project, including the documents necessary for the issuing of the building permit, by January 2021.

– The building will not be extended, nor will its current dimensions and shape be changed. This is primarily an interior intervention aiming to adapt the building to modern use, so that the citizens can have the optimal experience at the highest science and arts institution in Serbia. The biggest change will concern the atrium, which is to be turned into a concert hall and connected with other units of the building – Raskovic explains for Politika.

The daily reminds that this is the first major intervention on the building after 70 years, since the building, which has the status of a cultural good, was reconstructed under the project of architect Grigory Samoylov, a Russian emigree.

The monumental SASA building, with facades overseeing three streets, was designed by architects Andra Stevanovic and Dragutin Djordjevic and built in 1912, as a facility dominated by the features of academic architecture, with baroque and secession elements.
