Construction of visitor center in nature reserve "Pašnjaci velike droplje" in Mokrin

The foundations for future visitor center have been laid in special nature reserve "Pašnjaci velike droplje" in Mokrin, and that center should be finished prior to April 15, 2010.
- Future center, for which the Ministry of Environment Protection set aside 2.2m RSD 18 months ago, will be made of wood, covered by pepper tiles, it will have a watchtower 8 meters high and enough room for about 50 people - Ljubomir Novakov from Hunting association "Perjanica", which runs the reserve, told "eKapija".
The project for construction of the center has been elaborated by company "Domus" from Kanjiža, while the contractor is "Premir" from Kikinda.
Construction of the center is necessary because the keepers of the reserve watch the area of about 6.5 ha and have only one dillapidated watchtower that is used only in extreme need.
The President of local community Mokrin, Goran Dumitrov, explained earlier that "the job of watchmen will now be much easier, while the protection of great bustards will be raised to a higher level. In addition, construction of the visitor center will keep the reserve open for scientists, students, excursions and nature lovers".
By the way, great bustard is the biggest bird in Europe that can fly. The bird can be found only in Spain, Hungary and in the north of Banat, that is, in reserve "Pašnjaci velike droplje" (Pastures of Great Bustard), in the area of 5,400 ha between the villages of Mokrin, Sajan, Jazovo and Banatsko Aranđelovo.
According to the data from the last year, there are 23 great bustards living in reserve
"Pašnjaci velike droplje". It is very difficult to approach them because they are extremely cautious and easily scared.
