"Adidas" starts making "sports shoes for 1 EUR"

German company "adidas", the world's second largest manufacturer of sports equipment, has confirmed the plans to make "one-euro shoes" to offer to the poor and barefoot of the world.

According to "Deutsche Welle", it is expected that the pilot production will start next year in Bangladesh. "The final price has not been determined yet. 'One euro for pair' is only the concept of the project at the moment", said Jan Runau, the spokesperson of "adidas".

Production of "one-euro sports shoes" should begin in 2010, as a part of the social package. That means that the goods will be sold at the production price, which covers only the value of materials and production costs.

The initiator of the project is an economist from Bangladesh, Mohamed Junus, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 as the founder of "Grameen Bank", which grants microcredits to the poor to help them start their first businesses.
