Government adopts Decree on environmental protection fee

The Government of Serbia has adopted a Decree on criteria for determining activities impacting the environment based on the amount of pollution, i.e. level of negative impact on the environment. The Decree prescribes method for calculating and amounts of charge for environment protection and improvement of environment .

– The environmental protection fee, based on established pollution limits and the “polluter pays” principle enables legal entities, entrepreneurs and individuals to reach their economic goals but covers only a small portion of environmental protection, the Government stated on their website.

The Decree prescribes formulas for allocating funds for these purposes based on the economic strength of the legal entities, entrepreneurs and individuals and ecological solidarity, that is, the the principle of mutual responsibility for protection and improvement of the environment.
