Citizens of Serbia, Travel Without Visas from December 19th

The Council of Ministers of the European Union agreed to the position of the expected abolition of EU visas for citizens of Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia have already put into force on 19th December this year, unlike the previously scheduled term - 1 January 2010th

It was a unique position in the EU Ambassador to the State Committee of permanent representatives of states (COREPER), said the agency "Beta" sources from the EU Council of Ministers.

As noted, it should now be confirmed by 11th November meeting of the European Parliament and then probably before the end of the month at a meeting of ministers of internal or external affairs of the EU.

Sources in the COREPER also added that this position was adopted on the proposal of Slovenia. Slovenian Foreign Ministry announced earlier that the visas for citizens of Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia will be lifted before Christmas and New Year holidays.
- Slovenia has proposed at the meeting of the Working Group for a visa at the meeting of the Council of the EU, that the visa regime for Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia begin to implement, but from 19 December this year, not 1 January 2010th as was previously announced - was stated in a statement.

Slovenian Ministry has stressed that for Serbia and Montenegro before this it will be necessary to wait in another report on the expert group meeting the criteria for visa liberalization, but Slovenia is not expected that there would br any special difficulties.

The proposal soon to consider the European Parliament and the Council will it, as it provides, adopted in mid-November.

- This proposal, supported by Slovenia, this country promises a nice Christmas gift, because the citizens will have the time of Christmas and New Year to be able to travel to the countries of the "Schengen" visa-free - says the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia.
