New Law on Employment Injury Insurance soon

The new Draft Law on Employment Injury Insurance will enter the parliamentary procedure very soon, as announced by Serbian Minister of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Policy Zoran Djordjevic at the press conference on the occasion of the opening of the Serbian Insurance Days in Arandjelovac.

As the minister pointed out, the law, which is still being prepared, should considerably change the relation between the employer and the employees and make a step toward mandatory insurance.

– The system of the protection of rights in case of employment injury aims to provide adequate compensation for those who are injured at work and help reduce the frequency of employment injuries through prevention – the minister said and added that it was very important to raise awareness of the importance of mandatory insurance among the citizens.

The minister said that the introduction of this kind of insurance would contribute to the meeting of the goals related to upgrading the protection of workers' health and creating safe and healthy working environments, as well as reducing the costs of employment injury-related treatment and rehabilitation.

– Workers will be given a more fair compensation, and the procedure will be simplified and not involve courts. With the implementation of this type of insurance, employers will get grants to invest in prevention and risk reduction – the minister said.
