Four cities compete as one for design of geographic information system - job worth 2m EUR

The cities of Bijeljina, Gabrov, Kumanovo and Niš will join the forces to become a candidate for implementation of the Geographic Information System (GIS) project worth about 2m EUR. The representatives of the authorities signed the Protocol on cooperation on October 16th, 2009.

- We also held the conference on advantages of development through transnational cooperation in southeast Europe - said Mićo Mićić, the Mayor of Bijeljine, and added that the joint aim was to make projects the candidates for EU's funds.

He said that, thanks to the experience of Slovenians who had presented GIS project in Bijeljina, which had already been in use in that country, implementation of the GIS project would be easier. That system enables quicker economic development of cities that have quality databases.

- GIS comprises four subprojects that concern water supply system, agriculture, renewable energy, and land registration - said Biljana Jovanović, the representative of Niš, and pointed out that part of the conditions for admission to EU would be met in that way.

Ms. Jovanović said that GIS created opportunity for attracting investors because the quality geographic information system in the city made it possible for the investors to know what, where, how and which business they can start on certain territory.
