- The economy of Serbia will return to positive grounds next year and register growth of 1% - European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) expects.

The creditor foresees drop in Serbia's economic activities in 2009 by 4%, after economic growth of 5.4% in 2008.

- Serbia will resume its progress in several fields, but the interest of foreign investors is reduced and the privatization of remaining public companies made difficult because of the global economic crisis - the leading economist in EBRD, Peter Sanfey, pointed out.

Speaking of Serbia, Mr. Sanfey said that "it is important to emphasize that companies' preparations for privatization will be resumed once the global economic situation starts improving".

EBRD expects drop in economic activities of the countries of central and east Europe in 2009 by 6.3% at average, while the expected economic growth in the region in 2010 amounts to about 2.5%.
