Serbia among four European countries that registered increase in number of tourists

Serbia, Sweden, Hungary and Macedonia are the only European countries that registered increase in number of tourists in 2009, while all others were visited by less tourists than in the previous years.

The President of European Travel Commission, Artur Obešar, said at the press conference occasioned by the 77th General Assembly of European Travel Commission (ETC) in Bečići, that the next year would be difficult for tourism, which was the reason why high level of services must be maintained at all destinations and why tourists' wishes must be respected.

He added that Montenegro's expectation to finish year 2009 with the same number of guests as at the end of year 2008 represented great success.

The CEO of Montenegrin National Tourism Organization, Saša Radović, said that Montenegro had registered the same number of tourists during the first nine months of year 2009 as in the same period in 2008, while the number of overnight stays had dropped by 2%.

Members of the European Travel Commission, with the headquarters in Brussels, are 39 European national tourism organizations whose aim is to advertise and promote tourism in Europe, as well as in certain countries they represent.
