– The construction of two subway lines in Belgrade is one of the largest infrastructural projects in Serbia and certainly the largest infrastructural project in the modern history of Belgrade. That’s why we’ve decided for the Government of Serbia, as the investor, to choose a special financial advisor for this project, whereas the City of Belgrade will pick a technical advisor. Together, they will oversee the entire project. We believe that this is the best realization model – said Serbian Deputy Prime Minister, Zorana Mihajlovic, which presides over this task force.
As she added, a legal framework will need to be secured as well so that the entire project of the construction of two subway lines in the capital of Serbia would be realized in the best way possible, the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure says in a press release.
Deputy Mayor of Belgrade Goran Vesic expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the preparation for the construction of the Belgrade subway system.
– The Belgrade subway is a project of national importance for Serbia and Belgrade and the city is working at an increased pace on adopting the Detailed Regulation Plan for Makisko Polje, which should be completed by November 2019, after which a public interest should be declared and the expropriation process should begin, as this is the location where the construction of a depot and the first subway line will first begin – Vesic said, Beoinfo reports.
He pointed out that the Jaroslav Cerni Institute was preparing a hydrotechnical solution for Makisko Polje parallel with this, and that the Urban Planning Institute of Belgrade was preparing the Detailed Regulation Plan for the rail system of the city of Belgrade, to be completed by September 2020. This plan will create a basis for the declaration of a public interest for the subway stations, so that the expropriation of land would be carried out, enabling the construction of the stations, Vesic says.
– The Government of Serbia is securing the legal basis for the construction of the subway through the adoption of laws and bylaws this autumn, as the current laws do not mention the subway – Vesic said and added that they were all working on negotiations with the company Powerchina, which was named by the Chinese side as the company to build the subway system through an international agreement between the two states, based on the memorandum signed in Beijing this May.
Powerchina will be doing the job as part of a consortium with the French company Alstom.
