Serbia became member of Executive Council of World Tourism Organization


- Serbia has become a member of the Executive Council of the World Tourist Organization (WTO) as one of the countries representatives of Europe - Goran Petković, the State Secretary of Tourism in the Ministry of Economy, said yesterday (October 7, 2009).
- In that way, the interests of Serbia and the region will be protected since three out of total of five members of that Council are Serbia, Hungary and Romania - he told "Beta" agency after he returned from the 18th meeting of the General Assembly of WTO in Kazakhstan.
According to his words, as a member of the Executive Council, Serbia will be able to "affect policities and resolutions, as well as to prepare the decisions that are made by other organs, such as the General Assembly, and to participate in the work of WTO's specialized bodies, such as the Program Committee".
Petković explained that Serbia would be able for the first time to participate in preparation of the list of projects and voting for the list of projects.
General Assembly of the World Tourist Organization will last until October 9th, and it is expected to be attended by over 800 delegates from the UN countries and nearly 2,000 businessmen.
