"Donbass Arena", the stadium of FC Shakhtar in Donetsk, is the first stadium in East Europe to become a part of the UEFA Elite category with "five stars". That practically means that the stadium meets all conditions to host the final match of the FIFA Championship League or the finals of European Football Championship in 2012. This stadium can hold 50,000 spectators.
The stadium lighting has been provided and installed by company "Philips". The author of the project is English "ArupSport", which already cooperated with company "Philips" on the projects for Alianz Arena in Munich, the stadium of Manchester City, and stadium Espanyol in Barcelona.
- Football club Shakhtar has found its interest in cooperation with company "Philips" due to our global experience in work on sports facilities, which guarantees the satisfaction of all participants in sports events following the project's realization. "Philips" is hired to provide technical support, projects and calculations, to install and test equipment, and, finally, to teach users how to handle the equipment - said the people from company "Philips".
"Philips" has installed Vidiwall screens, two giant LED displays (92.16 sqm each) and Vidiwall side banners in "Donbass Arena", while total of 267.2 square meters of promotional side LED banners have been installed around the pitch.
Sports lighting on the stadium
According to the latest recommendations of FIFA and UEFA for HDTV broadcasts, it is necessary that the level of light amounts to 2000 lx. This is made possible thanks to 272 ArenaVision MVF404 MHN-SE2000W floodlights.
Interior lighting
For the needs of the stadium's interior lighting, "Philips"
had delivered over 7,000 lamps, most of which are Pacific
TCW216 lamps that are used in technical premises, while Europa 2 FBS120 and Impala TBS160 lamps, the build-in lamps with fluorescent light source, electronic pre-connection tools and anti-panic modules, are used in all other premises.
Lighting system around Arena
The approaches to the stadium and its surroundings are lighted with lamps "Arken", "MiniOptiflood", "Decoscene" and "Amazone". Over 400 lamps have been installed in order for Arena's surroundings (total of 46,000 square meters) to be brought in accord with its magnificient looks.
"Donbass Arena" was opened at the end of August 2009 in the presence of about 3,000 VIP guests, including the President and the Prime Minister of Ukraine.
