The members of the City Assembly of Nis have adopted the decision on implementing a modern public transport system. The new system is based on a public-private partnership of the Public Transport Directorate and private transporters.

The tendering procedures for the organization of the public transport in urban and suburban areas will open by the end of September. The value of the tender is RSD 10.5 billion and this requires an international public procurement procedure, Politika writes.

– Each transporter will need to have low-floor buses with platforms for the disabled, equipped with air-conditioning devices. Also, the vehicles will need to feature cameras for traffic control and to meet the transporter's obligations regarding the comfort of passengers, including devices providing a constant internet connection. We have insisted especially on all public transport vehicles having electronic passenger counters and info-displays within the bus, informing the passengers about their current location and announcing the next stop – Mayor Darko Bulatovic says for Politika.

After the tender is carried out, agreements will be signed with the selected transporters for a period of seven years.
