Free Zone Pirot to expand to neighboring municipalities – Two companies announce investments in Dimitrovgrad

Companies from Dimitrovgrad and Babusnica will be operating within Free Zone Pirot from now on, as per the decision reached by the Government of Serbia to have this zone, recently pronounced the best free zone in Europe, expand its capacities to two neighboring municipalities.

By the same decision, Free Zone Pirot is expanded by 2 hectares, says the zone’s director, Dragan Kostic, whereas the areas in Dimitrovgrad and Babusnica will amount to 5 hectares each.

– A commission is supposed to arrive here in September and we expect companies to start investing within the free zone regime from October – Kostic says.

He says that this move will contribute to the creation of new jobs in undeveloped municipalities of the Pirot District, and that the first results will be visible in Dimitrovgrad.

– We seek companies and fight for them to come here. Two companies are arriving to Dimitrovgrad, one of which recycles old tires. They are coming here because they will be able to operate within the free zone regime. These are greenfield investments in Dimitrovgrad, in the Beles Industrial Zone, which will from now on be called Free Zone Beles – Kostic says.

It is important, he adds, that, after joining the free zone, the companies will begin investing even more, and new companies will be incited to arrive as well.

By operating within a free zone, the investor is provided with special benefits and a preferred tax regime, such as exemption from the VAT and the customs fees on the import of raw materials and materials meant for the production of exporting goods, machines, equipment and building materials.
